China and Greece might not celebrate the coming of 2015 at the same period of time but do share similar hopes for a better year especially for patients of young age. In that regard, initiatives focusing on the fight against children cancer should be praised. In Hong Kong, for instance, the Children Cancer Foundation has attempted for over 25 years to provide caring service for young children with cancer and their families. Although it began as a small group of individuals it has grown into the driving force behind the fight against this life-threatening illness. In Greece, the ‘Elpida’ Association of Friends of Children with Cancer has also played a critical role. Established in the early ‘90s by a group of responsive women, headed by the President of the Association Ms. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, it has created model medical units, guest houses, the first Oncology Hospital for Children in Greece and recently the Bone Marrow Donor Bank.
