In a press conference held in Beijing after the Greek snap election of 20 September 2015 China congratulated the new Greek government and expressed its hope for the improvement of the bilateral relationship. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei said: ‘ We have noted the smooth running of the Greek parliamentary election. China congratulates Mr. Tsipras and the Syriza party on winning the election again. China always attaches great importance to bilateral relations with Greece, and hopes to work in unison with the Greek new government to press ahead with bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas and move forward China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership’.
