On the occasion of the celebrations for the New Year, CRI Director-General Mr Wang Gengnian has given his sincerest greetings and best wishes to overseas audiences on behalf of the China Radio International ear listeners, audience, and netizens. His speech was as follows:

‘It’s a time to ring out the old year and bring in the new, on behalf of China Radio International and myself, I’d like to express my earnest greetings and best wishes to everyone and wish you a happy New Year, and a life of happiness and good health.

China celebrated its 65th birthday in the year of 2014. The Chinese people have taken a firm step on the road to realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation. The year 2015 is the first year of China’s drive to comprehensively deepen reforms. CRI has also embarked on a new era in its journey of building a modern, comprehensive and innovative international media group.

Friends across the world continued to pay attention to China and CRI in 2014. Just like Australian listener Roland Neo said: “CRI shows me that China with its economy taking off is playing a more and more important role on the global stage. Thank you for making us so close to China!”

Dear friends, your attention and encouragement are the greatest motivation for us to move forward. I’m here to express my sincere gratitude to you! In the past year, we have paid close attention to every corner of the world through our reporters and editors all over the world. We’re glad for the mild recovery of the world economy. We also show our admiration to people who make efforts to improve their living environment, and sympathize with our friends suffering from the rampant Ebola virus from the bottom of our hearts.

Today, although we are in different countries, our connection has become closer and more widespread. The world has become a community of shared destiny, merging and interdependent with each other. Interaction leads human development and communication makes civilization magnificent!

China is trying to understand the world, and hopes that the world and our friends will understand China better. Only through enhancing understanding can there be more trust and cooperation, fewer misunderstandings and conflicts. The major job of CRI is to let China understand the world, let the world understand China, and promote communication and friendship between the Chinese people and people in other countries.

We will provide a Chinese perspective to the world, introduce a Chinese value, report a Chinese way of observing and perceiving the world, and tell friends more excellent stories happening in this oriental country. We will introduce more events in the rest of the world to the Chinese people, share more touching stories happening in your countries, and let the Chinese people understand the world, including our friends’ recognition and opinions towards China.

During the modern era in which the Internet continues developing, there’s dissemination of information everywhere. The world is big, but not far away! At present, CRI broadcasts in 65 languages. It covers the world via a wide range of communication means, including radio, television, newspaper, Internet and mobile phone.

In the New Year, we will speed up the development of integration of multiple media forms, especially to share news and stories happening across the world with friends via the new communication channel and means in the Internet era. We believe new communication means will bring us closer to our friends, make our communication and interaction more convenient and faster, and further promote our mutual understanding and friendship.

I wish a happy New Year and a pleasant life to our friends again!”
