In his attempt to analyse the recent decision of a Chinese consortium to buy 65% of Kumport Terminal in the Port of Ambarli in Turkey, journalist of the Greek daily Kathimerini Elias Bellos refers to COSCO sources. According to these sources, COSCO is not looking for alternatives to the Piraeus port. By contrast, the Chinese company is only expanding its activity in a significant Turkish port. As opposed to the Piraeus port, Kumport Terminal can hardly be considered a transhipment hub. Therefore, it is expected that more feeder services will operate from Piraeus to Turkey following the recent transaction made by the Chinese consortium.
