According to EU’ growth strategy ‘Europe 2020’, the Union is prepared to promote free, open and transparanet commercial relations.  In that regard, the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its President Vasssilis Korkidis emphasise on the need for Greece to significantly improve its exports. There is currently large room to do this. The port of Piraeus has become an important transshipment hub after COSCO undertook its management in 2009. It is indicative that although the port could handle 665.000 TEU in 2009 it handled 3.160.000 TEU in 2013 and 3.700.000 in 2014.
