VIANEX, as part of its corporate social responsibility and focusing mainly on Medical Science, is carrying out – under the auspices of the Hellenic Society of Lipidology, Atherosclerosis and Vascular Disease – a Panhellenic Patient Support Programme for measuring LDL cholesterol, entitled ‘Measure LDL with us’.
The overall programme will include 15,000 LDL cholesterol measurements all over Greece and will last from September to December 2015. The Patient Support Programme ‘Measure LDL with us’ will enable the population, and especially the socio-economically vulnerable groups who have suffered the harshest impact of the economic crisis, to measure for free their ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, the most significant cardiovascular risk factor with regards to lipidemia.
Several studies have shown that cardiovascular disease is the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and constitutes a major health problem. A recent report from the European Society of Cardiology showed that morbidity caused by coronary heart disease (CHD) has increased by 11% in Greece between 1972 and 2005. In particular, according to this report, Greece had the 4th highest CHD mortality rate in Europe among men and women of up to 65 years of age.
The main objectives of the programme are the following:
- Better patient control and compliance by providing free LDL cholesterol laboratory tests. Patients who are not able to measure their LDL cholesterol level (due to lack of insurance, etc.) will be able to do so and subsequently be checked by their attending physician.
- Identification by the attending physicians of patients not included in the target group in order to adjust their treatment and protect them from cardiovascular risk.
- Direct contribution in mobilising the population for the purpose of better health prevention.
The overall management of the programme has been entrusted to AID PLUS CARE, (APC), a company specialising in Patient Support Programmes that has experience in providing the required services and is certified for personal data management. APC will be responsible for implementing the programme and providing any support necessary. APC will deliver the coupons for free LDL cholesterol measurement to the doctors.
Each participating physician will receive at least 10 coupons for LDL cholesterol measurement and the test will be conducted at the panhellenic network of BIOIATRIKI Group of Companies. He/she will also ensure that his/her patients carry out the free LDL measurement within the duration of the Programme.
Those interested in participating in the Programme should visit the website of the Hellenic Society of Lipidology, Atherosclerosis and Vascular Disease (EELIA) www.eelia.gr), where details of the programme have been posted, and sign up by filling in the electronic application form. All private physicians handling patients for whom the measurement of LDC cholesterol is considered necessary are eligible for participation in the programme.
