Mykonos will be again one of the top destinations for tourists from China visiting Greece in 2016. This cosmopolitan but also serene whitewashed island in the heart of the Cyclades was formed from the petrified bodies of giants killed by Hercules according to the Greek mythology. In the modern era, it constitures a fascinating place – where glamour meets simplicity – and naturally attracts international attention. In that regard, Mayor of Mykonos, Mr Konstantinos Koukas spoke on chinandgreece.com on his preparedness to welcome tourists travelling from China. His ambition is to help Mykonos acquire new friends drawing on existing expertise and experience. In his view, ‘the island can offer its Chinese visitors all what they wish for’. Also, as Mr Koukas says, ‘ the arrival of Chinese guests helps the municipality to deliver on its objective and boost tourism in all periods of the year’.
‘The market of China is of high interest for us’ explains the Mayor of Mykonos on chinaandgreece.com. That is because Chinese tourists do not only look for relaxation and fun but they also want to visit archaelogical sites and learn about the ancient civilisation. Mykonos can certainly respond to their needs. ‘By coming to our island’, Mr Koukas explains, ‘Chinese tourists have many relevant opportunities such as going to Delos and visit the Ano-Mera Monastery‘. Within this context, he hopes that a higher number of guests from China will visit Mykonos in the future ‘in order to contribute to the already upward tendency from this friendly coutry’. Last but not least, it is also important – according to the Mayor Koukas – that many Chinese tourist travel abroad in off-peak periods.
